Menu and my thoughts on Sushikuni

Today I made an unexpected visit to “Sushikuni” and will introduce the menu I ordered and other menu items!!
If you want to have a delicious seafood bowl in Tsukiji, you have to see this to start!

I ordered the “Original Kobore salmon roe bowl,” which is made with only vinegared rice and salmon roe

The rice bowl is covered with bright red salmon roe all over! I knew this because I saw a picture of it on the menu, But it is actually very powerful.

Now, let’s eat! Yum! Salmon roe and rice go great together! You don’t need soy sauce at all. The saltiness of the salmon roe and the sweetness of the rice are a perfect match. This is delicious.

Hm? I noticed on my third bite that the rice in this bowl was sushi rice. I see, it is salmon roe and sushi rice. That makes sense because it’s a sushi restaurant. And for those of you who don’t like sushi rice, this one does not really feel like “vinegar”. I tried it with sushi rice alone, and I felt more sweetness than sourness. It is delicious even when eaten alone with sushi rice. I keep eating salmon roe bowl. You can clearly see the layers of rice and salmon roe! And both are thick! As you can see from this picture, there is quite a lot of rice. The waitress told me that I could ask for a little less rice when ordering a bowl of rice. However, I personally felt that the salmon roe had a reasonable saltiness, so it would be hard to enjoy the salmon roe without a normal serving of rice.

Other menu items!

The lunch menu is bowls or Sashimi.

Sushi is available only at night. In addition to the salmon roe bowl, there are about 10 other bowls on the menu, including a sea urchin bowl, a seafood bowl, and more.

Original kobore sea urchin bowl 6,500yen
Edomae garden eel bowl 3,500yen

Recommended dishes and tips on what to order at Sushikuni

With so many different menu items, it must be hard to decide which one to choose, right?
So, if you’re not sure what to order, here are some recommendations. I’ll tell you the tips on what to pick!

Original Kobore salmon roe bowl

Kobore means overflowing. As I mentioned above, the salmon roe was almost overflowing, and it was very tasty.
The price was 4200 yen. I can’t say that it was cheap, but it was reasonable since the salmon roe was served in such a large portion.

Sea urchin, salmon roe, and medium fatty tuna bowl

Another recommendation is the “sea urchin, salmon roe, and medium fatty tuna bowl.”
After I finished eating, the waitress told me that the restaurant is particularly proud of its sea urchin dish and that the “sea urchin, salmon roe, and medium fatty tuna bowl” is its most popular signature dish.

Who would we recommend Sushikuni to?

Sushikuni is recommended for

  • those who want to enjoy a quiet and relaxing meal in a cozy restaurant.
  • those who want to eat plenty of salmon roe and sea urchin.
  • those who are looking for a restaurant that is easy to enter by yourself.

The restaurant is also available with English and Chinese menus. I thought the restaurant was quite used to serving international travelers, as there was a group of customers from overseas.

Sushikuni Basic Information

とゝや (ととや)のサービス丼

Here is some basic information about Sushikuni. Make sure you check before you go.

Atmosphere

It is a very small restaurant with only a counter and four table seats. During lunchtime, customers came in frequently, but the restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere. It is open and easy to enter for first-time visitors. The number of customers is about seven to three, Japanese and foreigners, with two or four in a group being the most common. It was not too crowded when I went there around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, but I heard that it is often crowded at noon on Saturdays and Sundays. You might want to go a little earlier on the weekends.
